Youths  of Ogba/Eegbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have asked the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, (NAOC) to site its proposed refinery in their area, or face shutting down.
The youths under the aegis of ONELGA Youth Executives Coalition, (OYEC), also wants all the International Oil Companies, (IOCs) operating in their area to relocate their offices to ONELGA.
The coalition made these demands in a statement jointly signed by the leaders of the six zones that make up ONELGA.
The leaders include ,  Kingsley Ogwumike, Engr. Kingsley Ugwueoah, Mr. Victor Odili, Olowu Onyemauche, Mr. ThankGod Eluozo and Simeon Uzoma.
Reading the statement on Saturday in Omoku, the headquarters of ONELGA, the leader of OYEC, Kingsley Ogwumike, noted that the people of ONELGA are been stifled by the government at all levels and oil giants operating in the area.
Ogwumike warned the Federal Government and the IOCs to immediately redress  the maltreatment against the people of the area.
He noted that peace has returned in the area, but wondered while repentant cultists in the area were not captured in the FG’s amnesty programme.
He said: “Agip has signed an unbelievable $15bn refinery, power project deal for Zabazaba field, located in Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 245, also 150,000 barrels per day capacity brand new refinery which will be located in Port Harcourt or Brass at the same $15 billion value.”
“Federal Government and Agip, we are sure you are playing on our intelligence, because the refinery can give employment to the youths of ONELGA, so you want to tactically divert it to a different location, it is unacceptable.
“We request that the proposed Agip refinery be sited in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA. We have enough expanse of land adequate environmental conduciveness for the said project, because it will assist in reducing unemployment in our place and the Niger Delta,” he said.
The youths further requested that the FG should build one modular refinery in the area to be operated by the oil rich communities, adding that it would also create employments for the youths of the area.
