Congo coach Claude Le Roy reckons his Red Devils will not be under pressure to win big at AFCON 2015 as his young squad already exceeded expectations by qualifying from a tough group which had defending champions Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan.
“We have six players who are under 20 but all my boys like football; they like to play. We have no pressure because for us the big target was to come back into the Africa Cup of Nations after 15 years of not qualifying,” Le Roy said adding: “We will see how far we go.”
Congo were winners of the Nations Cup in 1972 and first appeared at the final tournament in 1968 and feature in 1978, 1992 and the last was in 2000.
“On a technical level, we are doing great and we understand that the host will have some limitations because of the short notice of organising the tournament so we have told our players to be patient, to forget anything that is missing because of the time required to organise the Africa Cup and manage every situation well.”
Congo are in the opening match of the 2015 championship and play hosts Equatorial Guinea in Bata on Saturday.
