Two policemen and five other persons have been feared killed in a fresh cult clash that erupted on Sunday in Rumuji and Ovogo communities in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was learnt that the two dreaded cult groups that has been tormenting the state, the Icelanders and the Greenlanders, were locked in battle for supremacy.

The Nation gathered that suspected Icelanders group had early on Sunday allegedly invaded Rumuji police station and shot dead the two officers on duty.

A source who simply identified himself as Mr. Michael, hinted that after the bandits gunned down the two policemen they immediately started shooting sporadically.

Michael disclosed that the cult boys broke into some rooms in Rumuji and Ovogo communities shooting and killing their victims.

Michael said that the Greenlanders who were resident in the area on noticing invaders swung into action, thereby worsening the shooting spree.

He said the cultists also set ablaze several buildings suspected to be owned by the cultists or their parents, adding that it took the intervention of military operatives to chase the rampaging cultists and taming the situation.

A senior Police officer at the Rumuji Divisional Headquarters who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the hoodlums opened fire on the officers who were on duty.

As at the time when this report was filed , there was still uneasy calm in the two communities, Ovogo and Rumuji, as residents who fled the area were yet to return.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command as at the time of filing this report could not confirm the report because most of its top officers were already on transfer based on a directive from the federal government.
