Bouyed by the call from President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians should support the Nigerian Army’s Thank You for Your Service Initiative, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) has donated a sum of N10million to the Nigerian Army.
While making the symbolic presentation of the cheque to the Director General of Nigeria Army Resource Center at the weekend, Major General, Johny Hamakin, Executive Secretary of TETfund, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi Baffa said the donation was to appreciate the gallantry of Nigerian soldiers in the North East region fighting insurgency.
He added that the gesture was a response to call by President Buhari that Nigerians should thank the Army for rescuing the North East from the firm grip of Boko Haram.
“We at the Fund are quick to identify with the initiative because we are in tune with what the Army is doing , the success recorded and the gallantry is visible for all to see . Everyone is aware of the efforts of the Army to the peace we are enjoying now in the country,” he said
The TETfund Executive Secretary also gave assurance that the Fund would collaborate with the Army Resource Center in other areas of common interest.
Speaking earlier, Director of the Nigerian Army Resource Center, Major General Johny Hamakin commended TETfund for being the first Government establishment to identify with the Thank You for Your Service Initiative.
“The initiative is what we thought we should do for our gallantry soldiers who are fighting to ensure that there is peace in this country. That is why we are partnering with other institutions to appreciate our gallant soldiers” He said
The N10million donation, according to him would be used to provide water for one battalion which he said has about one thousand soldiers currently fighting in the North East.
