Tambuwal wants America’s help in anti corruption war

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has canvassed support of the United States of America’s Parliament in Nigeria’s fight against corruption.

Tambuwal, who made the plea when he received the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Terence said the American Parliament and those of other western countries have the capacity to help the country and other third-world nations by enacting legislations that prohibit reception of suspicious wealth into their countries.

This, the Speaker said, would help to stem the spread of corrupt practices in developing countries.

“If you do so, it would not harm your system, and at the same time it would help us in the fight against corruption,” Tambuwal stated.

Earlier in his remarks, Macaulay recalled the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two countries, saying he was in the Speaker’s office to discuss matters of bilateral relations.

He said the visit was also aimed at seeking Tambuwal’s views on current insecurity problems in the country as well as on issues relating to the oil and gas sector, especially as they relate to the Petroleum Industry Bill.
