Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto, has called on wealthy Muslims in Nigeria to lend a helping hand to the needy in the country.
Abubakar, who spoke on Sunday while distributing over N4.67 million Zakat proceeds to the needy at Durbawa in Kware local Government of Sokoto State, urged the wealthy Muslims to pay out their Zakat to the needy in order to reduce the high level of poverty in the society.
During his distribution of the proceeds, 425 sewing machines, 85 deep freezer, 85 generators and 425 grinding machines were also distributed.
The Sultan said, “This will surely serve as a way of helping the society, it is a way of eradicating poverty and unemployment among us.
“The gesture will also serve as a means of fostering more understanding between leaders and their followers,’’ the Sultan said.
He however commended the efforts of Islamic scholars in the state for sensitising the populace on the importance of giving out Zakat for the benefit of mankind.
