Super Eagles Jersey Will Bring Good Fortune In Russia – Ogiefa

Chief Osadolor Ogiefa, the chairman of Bendel Insurance FC of Benin’s Supporters Club,  has applauded the federal government for the jersey it approved to be adorned by the Super Eagles players in the Russia 2018 World Cup tournament, saying that the jersey, which was also adorned by the team in its very impressive debut appearance in the tournament in 1994, is a harbinger of good fortunes.

In a chat recently,  Chief Ogiefa said: “Nigerians are very happy that the federal government has decided to bring back the jersey which the Super Eagles also adorned in its maiden World Cup in 1994 in USA.
“When our players wore the same jersey at the 1994 World Cup tournament they performed well and thus Nigerians are expecting a similar performance from them while wearing the same colour this year in Russia.
“It’s a very commendable decision that has been brought happiness to soccer lovers in the country,” he asserted.
On fears been expressed in some quarters that the World Cup bound Super Eagles handlers are under pressure to invite players who are candidates of some politicians for the mundial, Chief Ogiefa said that such action is totally wrong and uncalled for as it may spell doom for the team.
“If it’s true that some influential people are pressurising the Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, to invite their choice players to camp for the World Cup tournament then such people do not wish us well.
“The coach has been with the team for some time and he knows the players. He knows the role he will want them to play in a match and he knows how effective they can play such role.
“For that reason,  he should be allowed to pick his team. Anything other than that is a disservice to our ambition to perform creditably at the mundial. “
On incidence of violence at match venues,  Chief Ogiefa appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to call match referees to order as their action can make or mar a match.
He was of the view that it’s the insincerity of some match officials that make fans to resort to violence at match venues. He insisted that it’s football fans that are prone to such violent attitude not club supporters who are easily identified as a result of the identical attire they adorn on match days.
Chief Ogiefa dismissed fears that Argentina will beat Nigeria at the mundial.
“Our match against Argentina is a bonus point for us. I have no doubt about that. My only concern is that Goalkeeper Vincent Enyema should be recalled from retirement. His wealth of experience will be valuable to the Super Eagles in Russia.”
