The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, Airfield, has tasked the Nigerian Police to be up to their responsibility of security lives and property in the nation.
The body gave this charge in Port Harcourt while donating a six room sanitary facility made up of two bathrooms and four toilets to Police Divisional Headquarters, Elekahia, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Speaking, the President of the body, Mr. Tayo Okpanube, harped on the need for the police to be provided with facilities to enhance their operations.
Okpanube noted that the sanitary facility was to encourage the police to be up to their duty of providing to the people of the area.
He expressed worries that a modern station located at the heart of the city does not have a befitting sanitary facility and urged men and officers of the command to make good use of it.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer, Elekahia Police Station, Mr. Solomon Akika commended the body and promised that the facility would be put in good use.
Akika, who is a Superintendent of Police, disclosed that officers of the division have been facing challenges of going to convenience while on duty, adding that the facility would improve the services of the men.
He said: “I feel elated that they have come to assist us to ensure we have a comfortable place to answer the call of nature. It has good toilet facilities for males and females. Our men sleep here and need to refresh up in the morning.
“The rotary club came and saw the poor condition of our sanitary facility. If you see where men use before it was poor. When somebody is there it is just the same thing as being outside. For us to have men on standby for any distress calls we need to have a place for them. We are taking that as a challenge as well.”
