Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention scheduled for Saturday this week, a chieftain of the party and former Minister of Sport, Damishi Sango, as well as five other persons have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
Sango, who is the Plateau State chairman of PDP, was on his way to the elective convention when he was abducted along with his son, driver, and three other persons around Jere (Kaduna State) – Abuja road on Wednesday evening.
While many have continued to read political meaning to the abduction following the factional crisis that rocked the party few months ago, it was however gathered that the area they were kidnapped has for sometimes remains notorious following strings of kidnapping activities being recorded on that axis on regular basis.
Speaking on the development, the Publicity Secretary of PDP in Plateau State, John Akans, confirmed the ugly incident to newsmen on Thursday.
“Our chairman, Chief Damishi Sango, and five other persons, including his son, driver and a chieftain of PDP in Plateau State were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Wednesday evening.
“It was the Police who called his family and intimated them of the incident because his son’s phone was seen inside the vehicle.”
It was gathered that the kidnappers are yet to make any demand for ransom before their release.
