There was panic yesterday in Ubima community, Ward 8 in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State over issues of ballot box snatching and missing of result sheets
Ubima is the home town of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and the former Governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omeha.
The material arrived ward 8 at 10: 15 and was escorted to various units in the area with heavy armed men and officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Result sheet was missing in unit 14 which is Amaechi’s Unit while gun men snatched away all the electoral material at Unit 16, the voting unit of sir Celestine Omehia after he had voted.
At unit 8 cultists descended on PDP agent, Mr. Abiola Ohelle and he was later rushed to Ubima Health Centre where he is recuperating, result sheet was also missing at unit 1
The Presiding officer of unit 14 was arrested by the security officers for telling the prospective voters that the result sheet was missing.
The Minister immediately demanded that he should provide the result sheet; this was after a senior INEC officer told Amaechi that the P.O was deceiving them because he had signed the result sheet before coming to the unit.
This was happing by 2: 17 pm when Amaechi was yet to vote, and as of when this report was filled Amaechi did not vote.
Sir Celestine Omehia who voted by 1: 30pm before the material at his unit was hijacked said the situation was peaceful including the security arrangement.
Though, he was worried that some units at the ward had no security personnel to secure the unit while other units had more than the required number of security personnel.
PDP leader in the area Mr. Nnah Wordu said he want the result of unit 2 and 3 including other units where election was not held to be cancelled.
He said: “ I want the results of unit 2 and 3 to be cancelled, Amaechi actually was using the security agencies to intimidate us. They were beating and chasing our party agents from the polling units. We are going to protest this result if they go ahead to declare them. Amaechi cannot intimidate us in this community.”
