Floods Market With 38.7m Litres Of Aviation Fuel
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on Monday assured that there is no need for panic buying of premium motor spirit (petrol) ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities, as it has enough to last for 40-day, way into the New Year.
A statement by Ndu Ughamadu, Goup General Manager of the corporation’s Group Public Affairs Division, also said there is adequate supply “of AGO and DPK to satisfy national demand throughout the yuletide period and beyond.”
Speaking Abuja earlier on Monday, Group Managing Director of the corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, said the NNPC would sustain the drive towards ensuring availability of petroleum products at all times.
The statement spoke of plans to ensure a hitch-free air travel across the country during and after the yuletide period, by flooding the market with Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) popularly called aviation fuel.
Baru explained that the NNPC had imported about 38.7 million litres of aviation fuel, enough for about 26-day, exceeding the demand of marketers in a bid to forestall shortage of the product.
It would be recalled that airlines in the sector have in recent times experienced flight delays and cancellations across the nation’s airports.
Specifically, he said the corporation, on December 14, 2016, completed the discharge of 8,800MT which represented about 10.6million litres to major terminals in the country.
“In addition, as at this morning (December 19, 2016), 23,500MT which represented about 28.2million litres was being discharged to the major oil terminals.
“In order to sustain the tempo, the Corporation had also secured the supply of additional 30,000MT vessel of ATK which represented about 36million litres expected to berth Nigerian shores before the end of the year,” the statement added.
