The Nigerian Labour Congress ( NLC) has consoled the Sierra Leonean government over the mass death caused by mudslides in Freetown.
Ayuba Wabba, President of NLC in a condolence letter to Jennings Wright, President
Sierra Leone Labour Congress described the incident as an unspeakable tragedy.
The letter reads: “We are numbed by the sheer scope of destruction and loss of lives.
This is an unspeakable tragedy, and our hearts go to the families and
friends of the victims.
For a country barely coming to terms with the aftermath of a bitter
civil war and Ebola virus, this is one tragedy too many.
“While we join you in commending the Government for its emergency
response, we nonetheless hold the view that African Governments need
to do more for their people, especially the poor who are the victims
of this disaster.
“As Labour leaders in a continent with often times avoidable
afflictions, the least we should do for the people is hold our

to come to the aid of Sierra Leone.
“We similarly urge the Government of Sierra Leone to be more proactive
in the future, especially in matters connected to the poor.
