Nigerian Footballer Handed One-Year Suspended Sentence Over False Passport

A Nigerian footballer in Malta was on Monday handed a suspended one year sentence after he pleaded guilty to attempting to leave the country using false documents.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri sentenced Francis to one year in prison suspended for two.

24-year old Ita Francis, had travelled to Malta after being promised a trial with the first division team St George’s. When his contract with the team did not materialise, he decided to try to find work in Italy.

Ita was stopped at the airport by immigration officials who noticed that his Italian passport had been falsified.
