Aggrieved Niger Delta Youths has thrown its weight behind the call by the House of Representatives for a probe of the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The group which is based in the Niger Delta region stated that the probe of the commission was long overdue and urged the National Assembly to quickly constitute a body to immediately look into the activities of NDDC.
In a statement issued yesterday in Port Harcourt by the President of the group, Prince Amatari Bipeledei, described the call by the national Assembly as a welcome development.
Bipeledei noted that the probe is a responsibility that needs to be carried, adding that the House of Representatives should not abandon the idea to probe NDDC like they have done before.
Bipeledei said: “The resolution of the House of Representatives days ago to probe the utilization of funds appropriated to the NDDC from 2010 to date is a welcome development. We pray that it would l not be the usual media Probe
“We are going to carry out a peaceful protest if we discover that the Presidency and the National Assembly are not ready to probe the commission. The youths of the region are not happy with the retarding development of the region.”
Bipeledei said that the problem of the commission is not underfunding but stated that money appropriated to the NDDC were being mismanaged.
“The problem of NDDC is not lack of fund but poor management, mismanagement of funds where funds meant for the development the region is been diverted to agents, proxy companies, pseudo, cronies & relatives of the board who have been saddled with the responsibility of developing the region,” he said.
