Niger Delta Militants Withdrew Support For PANDEF, NDDC Others

…says they have failed the region

From Paul Obiajunwo, Port Harcourt

A coalition of militants in the Niger Delta region yesterday said the leadership of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) the Board of Niger Delta Commission (NDDC) and Minister of Niger Delta Affair have all failed the people of the region.

The statement was issued shortly after a meeting by Niger Delta Watchdogs, Niger Delta Volunteers, Niger Delta Warriors, Niger Delta Peoples Fighters, Bakassi Freedom Fighter, Niger Delta Movement for Justice, Niger Delta Fighters Network, Niger Delta Freedom Mandate and Niger Delta Development Network.

Convener of the meeting, General John Duku in a statement said the essence of the meeting was to inform the leadership of the above mentioned agencies, the federal government and the general public that we no longer recognize PANDEF ; the Minister of Niger Delta and NDDC Board.

Duku said the above agencies should be reshuffled as they are working against the interest of the region and the Niger Delta people.

He noted that the Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators (CNDA) have agree totally with the narrative that the injustices, exploitation, depravation, oppression and all other inhuman operations of the Nigerian government are rooted and stem from the skewed 1999 Nigerian Constitution.

He said the formation of PANDEF was greeted with wide acceptance by all militant-groups, adding that they gave the leadership an enthusiastic welcome, support and cooperation but little did we know that it has become a lame duck that will easily lose dynamism.

He stressed further that the leadership of PANDEF appears to be in a closet, totally shielded from the current happenings in the South East and South West.

The statement reads in parts “We are withdrawing our support, recognition and our alignment with the activities of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) under the current leadership.

“We are going to chart a new path that will reflect the current level of agitation in line with other zones and go for Niger Delta Sovereignty rather than the lousy clamour for the obsolete 16 – Point Agenda and the call for a dialogue team.

“We know that, with the resources in our territory under our control, the Niger Delta area will do far better than 16 Point Agenda, PANDEF is clamouring for.

“In the case of the impassionate, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, we shall call him to account for his unguarded utterances that have betrayed the people of the Niger Delta.

“We shall work to interface with more patriotic and zealous Niger Delta people to work out new collective approach that will ensure total freedom and complete control of our resources by any means necessary.

“We shall from henceforth, fight to liberate ourselves from the shackles of neo-colonialism and rule ourselves under a Niger Delta Republic, with diplomatic and economic relations with the peoples of the South East and South West.
