The capture of Mungono by Boko Haram insurgents have displaced about five thousand people, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) disclosed on Monday.
This was disclosed by the emergency agency’s Spokesman for the Northeast zone, Abdulkadir Ibrahim who added that an almost completed housing estate has been donated by Borno state government to house the IDPs.
Ibrahim said many more people are still being expected to find their way into the town, stating that 2,000 persons got to Maiduguri on Sunday while the remaining 3,000 arrived on Monday.
He said: “At the moment we have registered the 5000 persons and we are expecting more. We have put the needed materials that will enable them settle to their lives at the camp.”
The housing estate volunteered by the government is situated along Gubio road on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
