At least 19 people were killed on Saturday and scores injured when a child suicide bomber blew herself up at thcrowded market in the crowded Monday market in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Witnesses say the explosive detonated when the market was filled with people.
A member of the Civilian JTF, Ashiru Mustapha said the explosives detonated as the girl was being searched at the entrance to the market.
“The girl was about 10 years old and I doubt much if she actually knew what was strapped to her body.”
“In fact, she was searched at the entrance of the market and the metal detector indicated that she was carrying something.
“But sadly, the explosion went off before she was isolated, killing at least 10 people and injuring many others.”
The market has been cordoned off as health officials rescued the injured.
Insurgent group, Boko Haram have claimed responsibility for previous bombings which has claimed hundreds of lives since it began its violent campaign to establish an Islamic caliphate in Northeast Nigeria.
