Kidnapping: Community Makes Distress Call To Governor Amaechi

By Paul Obiajunwo, Port Harcourt

Two months after futile efforts to secure the release of  Mr. Joseph Sokolo from his abductors, the people of Abua, a community in Abua/Odual Local Government of Rivers State have made a distress call to Governor Rotimi Amaechi to help secure his freedom.

Sokolo, a prominent business man and son of Abua, was abducted two months ago on his way back to his hometown and he is yet to be released to his family.

Dr. Ela George, President Edouh Abuan Development Association (EADA) who spoke on behalf of the community said both the family of Sokolo and the entire people of Abua are no longer comfortable with the continued stay of the businessman in the den of kidnappers.

The President noted yesterday that EADA which is the voice of Abua community have constituted a committee to visit governor Amaechi for a possible intervention to get Sokolo liberated.

“After several efforts made by the community to ensure the freedom of our brother, our development association have decided to meet with the governor to brief him on our predicament over the abduction of Sokolo”, he reiterated.

He told ThePost that the abductors of Sokolo are asking for ranson worth millions of naira, which the family cannot afford. He noted that the most worrisome aspect is that the kidnappers keep increasing the ransom placed on their victim on daily basis.

“His continued detainment in the hands of his abductors is dangerous to his health, that is why we want the governor to do something fast to see if he could regain his freedom”, George noted.
