Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnics (KENPOLY) Bori formerly known as Rivers State Polytechnics (RIVPOLY) now has Dr. Georgewill Onengiye Moses as the new Acting Rector. Dr Onengiye who takes over from Sir Obianko Nwolu-Elechi becomes the second internal rector of the Polytechnics.
The new rector, Dr. Onengiye who hailed from Akuku-Toro Local Government Area of Rivers State was the Head of Computer Science Department and the former Director of Information Communication Technology (ICT), KENPOLY.
Congratulating the newly appointed rector yesterday, the chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), KENPOLY chapter, Comrade Ferry Barineka Gberegbe said the Polytechnic community and the entire ASUP members were very happy over the new rector appointment.
Comrade Gberegbe said, the appointment of one of the staff of KENPOLY to take over the affair of the institution shows that Governor Nyesom Wike did not only respect their opinion but respected the national poly of education.
He called on Governor Wike to address the issue of funding, adding that ASUP and the entire Polytechnics community appreciate his love for the institution but want him to release the three years outstanding state grant to the institution.
He said: “Before now we were agitating, calling on Governor Wike to ensure that he did not appoint outsider as the rector. With the appointment of Dr. Onengiye as the new Acting Rector the polytechnics community is glad to celebrate the second internal rector of the institution.
“We are aware of the new rector’s pedigree; with the support of the staff and the students of the institution we know he will not disappoint us. All he needs now is our prayer to takes the institution to the greater height,” he noted.
