IGP’s Panel Report On Rivers Rerun: Report Will Not Distract Governor Wike – PDP

APC:  IGP Panel report has vindicated our party

Paul Obiajunwo, Port Harcourt

The Rivers State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party,( PDP) has said that the police panel report on Rivers legislative rerun constituted by Inspector General of Police (IGP)  Ibrahim Idris cannot in any way distract the Rivers State governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.

The PDP said before the police panel came out with their report they have already knew that report will be predetermined  because they police “was bias and against the PDP in the state.”

Briefing the Press yesterday at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt,

the state capital, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr  Samuel Nwanosike said both the PDP and Governor Wike did not consider the  police panel report as distraction, rather the governor is busy commissioning projects in the state.

Nwanosike said the PDP cannot bribe the officers of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) when they are not the one that recruited them, adding that those who recruited them should tell Nigerians how they bribe them.

He said DCP Okoro led panel should tell Nigerian where they got the money that was  displayed  in the media and who are the people that gave them the money.

He said the panel only mentioned Rivers State government without pointing who in Rivers State government that gave the bribe to INEC officials.

The  state PDP spokesman also  alleged that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi ordered men of Spercial Anti Robbery Squad, (SARS) to beat him, PDP members and INEC officials up  during  the legislative rerun election in the state.

Nwanosike said: ‘We want them to show the evidence where money was given. Nigeria police has never being this worst; those persons must speak to Nigerians on how they got the money. But to be candid Governor Wike can never be distracted with this report.

“The people of Nigeria are facing recession, but the governor said there is no recession in Rivers State the governor cannot be distracted by this primary school drama, let it be known that this  report should be considered  as not existing. We have no business with the electoral officers.

“How can you give bribe to a man you don’t know, we are on ground, we campaigned during the rerun election. But APC never campaigned, they were busy recruiting and dining with INEC officials and today somebody has come up with a predetermined report, it is a shame that it is happening in democracy.

“Over 1,000 policemen and over 800 military officers stormed Ikwerre Local Government INEC office to scuttle a peaceful election. They harassed everybody including myself. As the agent of Thompson Goerge Sekibo , I was manhandled, thoroughly beaten like a common criminal.”

Responding , APC Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Chris Finebone said IGP Panel report has vindicated  his party

Finebone said: “We feel a sense of vindication over repeated alarm we sounded before, during after the general and rerun elections of 2015 and 2016 that Gov. Nyesom Wike bribes electoral officials before and during every election in Rivers State.

“ Indeed, the IGP Panel report goes further to confirm that the audio bribery clips published by Saharareproters in which the voice of Governor  Wike was directing the deployment of bribe money to INEC officials is real and authentic despite the barefaced denials by the governor.

“The APC believes that the spins and reverse spins the PDP is trying to put to a clear case of criminal act they committed with overwhelming evidence is the usual antics of roadside pickpockets when they are caught in the act.

“ Even more laughable is the attempt to disown the exhibit claiming that it belongs to the APC. Where on earth could the APC in Rivers State have found that kind of money if not the governor who withdrew N2bn belonging to River’s taxpayers just before the rerun election from which N260m was paid out to electoral officials as bribe money? “
