I won’t give up my mandate as PDP secretary – Oyinlola

The suspended National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola yesterday said he will not trade off his mandate. He insisted on his reinstatement as the National Secretary of the party.
He also explained what transpired when he met a seven-man committee of South-West PDP in Abuja last Tuesday. Oyinlola, who made the clarifications in a statement in Abuja, said he had not been asked by any person or group to drop his claim to the National Secretary of PDP.
He expressed shock at efforts to twist details of his discussions with a committee of South-West leaders of the party. He said:  “I met the committee of seven on Tuesday evening at Chief Bode George’s Abuja house.  Members of the committee are Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala, Senator Lekan Balogun, Chief Bode George, Erelu Olusola Obada, Alhaji Salmot Badru, Mr. Segun Ilori and Chief Ishola Filani. “At my meeting with that committee, I informed them of my earlier meeting that morning with the President, the Vice President and the party’s National chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu.
“I told them my position which the President understood very well. At the end of that meeting, the committee, through Chief Bode George agreed that my meeting with the President had superseded their assignment. “That was what transpired. I do not know where pretenders have gotten the message of falsehood they are now spreading that I had been asked to drop my legitimate claim. “I have said it many times. I will not trade away my claim to the National Secretaryship of the party which the courts have affirmed.” The Court of Appeal had in 2013 ordered the reinstatement of Oyinlola as the bonafide National Secretary of PDP.
But the PDP is yet to comply with the order of the court. On November 11, 2013, Oyinlola wrote a letter to the National Legal Adviser of the party, Victor Kwom to prevail on the party to comply with the judgment of the Court of Appeal. The letter said: “As you are very well aware, the Court of Appeal by its judgment delivered on Wednesday November 6, 2013 reinstated me as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“This followed the nullification of the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja presided over by Justice Abdul Kafarati by the Court of Appeal, Abuja which is a superior court of competent jurisdiction which also ruled that I was wrongly removed from office as PDP National Secretary. “You are requested to kindly note this development for immediate compliance by the PDP and all its organs, particularly the National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee of our great party.
“Kindly note that in compliance with the constitution of the PDP, I am expected to sign all official correspondences emanating from the PDP National Secretariat as the Chief Administrative and Accounting Officer of the PDP. “Please take this as an instruction to do all the needful for compliance with the Appeal Court Order which is attached herewith.”
