Unidentified gunmen on the early hours of Tuesday shot dead one Mr. Allain John-Morrison in Abua/Odua Local Government Area of Rivers State, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, (APC)
It was gathered that the gunmen had trailed their victim who was a former Councilor of Ward 1 in the Local Government Area to Okobuo area where he was shot and beheaded.
The APC chieftain was said to be heading for Ahoada area from his community on a motorcycle before the killers emerged and blocked him.
Confirming the incident, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Abua/Odua LGA, Mr. Gift Igoma, said John-Morrison was shot dead at about 6a.m along Abua/Ahoada link road by suspected assassins.
Igoma who is now the APC chairman of Abua/Odua disclosed that the Okada rider who was carrying the victim, who escaped the assassination told sympathizers at police station that three men on military uniform double-crossed him on the way and shot his passenger.
Meanwhile, police in the area have ordered that the remains of John-Morrison be deposited at the mortuary for proper investigation into the killing.
The victim was reported to have gone home yesterday to celebrate the victory of the appeal court rulling in favour of the twenty two sacked APC Local Government chairmen at the Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
A police source who pleaded anonymity said they are not aware of the matter, stressing that the Rivers police command has new Commissioner of Police and it would be unfair to welcome him with this kind of horrible news.
