Governors Worse Than Boko-Haram, Kidnappers- PDP Stalwart

By Akin Akande, Abuja
Barely 24 hours after Governor Rotimi  Amaechi , Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) said the forum was not ganging up against the federal government, a chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Chyna Iwuanyanwu on Wednesday said  the  forum is worse than Boko-Haram, kidnappers and the most visible threat to the nation’s nascent democracy.
Iwuanyanwu, who contested for the office of the PDP National Publicity Secretary in the last national convention of the party said that the governors, who on Tuesday said they were not against the government of President Goodluck Jonathan are anti-democracy and anti-people.
His words: “There is nothing wrong with a platform to promote interaction and exchange of ideas amongst governors but the Governors’ Forum has now degenerated into a political cabal whose only agenda is to hijack government at all levels with impunity”.
“The Governors’ Forum is now operating like a gang of political kidnappers. They use their stupendous wealth and power at their disposal to kidnap their political parties. Some governors are worse than the combined effect of Boko-Haram and kidnappers”, he lamented.
They have kidnapped and crippled their local governments, their state Houses of Assembly and even their state judiciary to the extent that state legislatures are voting against their own autonomy and the National Assembly has been forced to abort the public opinion poll on the autonomy of local governments just to please 36 extra -ordinary Nigerians called governors.
“Governors have become pharaohs and emperors running their states like demi-gods. Nigeria and the political parties have become hostage of the governors, they determine the choice of Presidential and vice presidential candidates, they also appoint and impose candidates for all positions in the leadership of political parties at all levels.  They also single- handedly decide candidates for State Assemblies and the National Assembly because they are in absolute control of delegates who are selected by them.”
He condemned the divisive activities of the Northern Governors’ Forum, South-East Governors’ Forum, South-South Governors’ Forum and the South-West Governors’ Forum, who are promoting state and regional interests at the expense of national unity and stability.
“It is illegal for our governors to be funding their forum with public funds especially as the forum does not exist in the interest of democracy and the unity of this country. The Governors’ Forum is now a gang up against our collective destiny,” Iwuanyanwu said.
He disclosed that the crisis in the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) is all about 2015, adding, “some governors want to hijack the party machinery to impose themselves as President and Vice President as if there is now a written Constitution that the choice of President and Vice President must come from the 36 ‘wise men’ called the governors in a country of over 150 million.”
