FG’s Silence Over Killing Of My Three Sons Shocking – El-Zakzaky

Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky

Leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky whose three sons and 32 followers were allegedly killed by soldiers in Zaria last Friday has expressed shock over what he called silence of the Nigerian Government over the killing of his three sons and several followers.

Speaking while receiving the Publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah who paid him a condolence visit over the incident in Zaria yesterday, Zakzaky said, the government’s silence has confirmed his initial stand that there was conspiracy in the killing.

According to him, “It is unfortunate how some soldiers would decide to kill innocent people that are on peaceful procession and government has refused to say anything, as if those killed were animals.”

“We have confirmed that one Lt Colonel Okuh personally killed some of the victims, including my sons. I am surprised that 33 people were killed and nobody from the government is saying anything.

“My sons and some of the victims were tortured to death. They were taken alive to their Basawa Barracks and tortured to death because there were signs of electric shock on some of the corpses, according to doctors.

“It would surprise you to know that there was an even a roadside beggar among those that were killed. There was even one Mr. Nyanwu, about 68-year-old, who was also killed because he simply cautioned them on how they were killing innocent people. Because of that they shot him to death. So, it is not about Shiites-Soldiers clash but killing armless and defenseless people.

“I don’t know if I can call them Nigerian military.  I was told that, on our way to the cemetery soldiers on checkpoints were saluting and expressing sympathy, saying that what happened was not in their name.  What happened was executed by a special killer unit, special murder unit. I was told there were 64 of them that came from Abuja on this act of murder.

“They came after the demonstration was over and people were dispersing. They started shooting indiscriminately at the people dispersing; it was not the demonstration they actually targeted but the people dispersing. Even the first among my sons to be murdered was just on his way in his mother’s car with the intention of going to convey his other brothers. He parked the car on the way.

“Four of my children were all taken alive.  One called Ali was shot on the leg; the rest were taken alive and fully alive. Mahmoud on learning that three of his brothers were taken, he decided to go with them. They waited for him to come at close range before they shot him. The doctors said, the shot was carefully targeted to ensure he bled to death and that was what happened,” El-Zakzaky narrated.

Responding, Nda-Isaiah called on all Nigerians to come together to save the country from what he called poor leadership and impunity that were threatening to bring her to its knees.

According to him. “We now heard that 33 people have been killed. Even if you kill 33 chickens illegally that could have been quite serious. So, I believe that the only thing that can solve our problem now in this country is leadership. We currently don’t have it. It is time that we start to run ourselves properly.

“I think they (Shiite) should go to court and fight till the end. It is commendable that their leader has called for restraint. I don’t know how many of us would lose three children and still maintain our calms. That is very commendable. All those that are guilty should need to face the law fully. It is time that we start to punish all crimes in this country,” he said.
