A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Dayo Adeyeye has claimed that since Dr Kayode Fayemi left office as governor of the State in 2014, the Agricultural sector of the state has been dead.
Price Adeyeye, in a statement released by Mr Omoniyi Ojo, the Director of Media of his campaign organization, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), lamented that the present administration in the state, has shortchanged the people of the state, due to planlessness and pecuniary interests.
He referred to the recent directive by the Yobe state government that all the workers in the state should be paid their June salaries immediately, adding that both states (Ekiti and Yobe) were created on the same day and that while his counterpart is contributing largely to the welfare of the people of his state, Governor Fayose is doing the reverse in Ekiti State.
“It is now evident that Yobe State is not owing its workers any salary, while Ekiti State is owing about eight months salaries. Both states were created the same day, while the Yobe governor is investing heavily in agriculture and making life pleasant for his people.
” it is a question of one being a prodigal and wasteful, while the other is creating wealth for his people.
Comparing both states in terms of Agriculture and rural development, the former Minister of state for Works, said that Yobe state has become the hub for rice production, an achievement he said was made possible by the forward thinking govern of the state.
He also mentioned that the state has also collaborated with Lagos State, that is short in land resources to produce abundant rice for the consumption of the residents of Lagos state, while there is no single initiate to better the lots of farmers in Ekiti State by the present administration.
“The statement reads in part; ” The Governor of Yobe state has directed that all the state workers should be paid their June salaries immediately. While it is heart warming to the workers in that state, it is a reminder of hard times in Ekiti State, where the workers are being owed about eight months salaries.
“It is so sad that the two states were created the same day, so sad. Yobe state has become the hub of rice production in Nigeria, just like Ebonyi, also created on the sane day with our dear state.
” While those states together with Ogun and Bayelsa State are reaping the dividends in billions of Naira, we are still groping in the darkness on the issue of our internally-generated revenues.
“Since Dr. Kayode Fayemi left office in 2014, agriculture has been dead in Ekiti State, the governor has only been interested in a bridge to nowhere. The flyover bridge has built with funds ( about 17 billion Naira) that could have turned Ekiti State into one of the biggest rice producers, if not the biggest.
” About three years ago, Lagos State, because if its peculiar challenges, gave Yobe about N10 billion Naira, to produce rice for his market, while those of us closer to Lagos here, are mere onlookers. now you can see the enormous returns on the project for Lagos State.
“Recently, Bauchi State Government, commissioned 500 tractors for its farmers, but our own governor has turned the tractors purchased by the Dr Fayemi, into refuse evacuators.
While others are investing in Agriculture and using it to shore up the revenue base of their states, our governor has turned Ekiti into a rudderless ship. What a calamity. Ekiti people now knows that they must vote him out of office on July 14″.
