Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has inaugurated the Mining Implementation and Strategy Team (MIST) which according to him will oversee and provide the leadership in the implementation of the Mining Road Map of the Ministry.
Dr. Fayemi noted that MIST which has 25 members under the chairmanship of Professor Olugbenga Akindeji Okunola is a key recommendation in the Roadmap.
According to him, Nigeria has no shortage of well crafted development frameworks, and roadmaps but the missing link has been the efficient and effective implementation of those initiatives.
“The MIST is a key recommendation in the Roadmap. In many respects, it is the most important recommendation in the Roadmap. The decision to establish the MIST is informed by these important lessons.
This Roadmap which provides a pathway for the sustainable turnaround and growth of the mining and metals sector has been subjected to series of validation exercises among which was a two day workshop with state governments and stakeholders held in Kaduna May 25-27, 2016″ the Minister said
The team is charge has a part of its terms of reference the responsibility to identify key low cost and low hurdle actions to be implemented by the Ministry, industry and other stakeholders that can start to build confidence in the mining revival and create a narrative to drive investment.
It is also expected to provide investment advice to the Minister and the Ministry regarding revival and expansion of the mining and minerals sector and develop a resource mobilisation strategy for the sector.
