At least eight persons suffered various degree of injuries on Monday from machete cuts as members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers( NURTW) Branch 2 engaged in free for all fight at the Federal Housing Authority FHA Bus stop Lugbe .

Eyewitnesses said that the fight ensued between the Union members at the FHA Lugbe wearing their reflective jackets bearing “NURTW Branch 2 following alleged encroachment of the Lugbe bus stop branch by the Branch 2 team from Pyakasa, a community along the Yar’Adua Express way.

Police Officer in charge of Zone 5 and 8 Lugbe police station, Superintendent Elisha Lafet intervened and quelled the crises that had lasted over 15 minutes as the loyalists of the Pyakasa and Jabi Park leadership engaged in fierce argument over who would control the park.

The Branch 2 members were said to have come to collect Union fees from the drivers operating from Lugbe to the city centre,   an action that infuriated the NURTW employees at the FHA bus stop in Lugbe.

“They suddenly started bringing out cutlasses and machete themselves, they must have killed the other man that was wearing a yellow T-shirt and jean trouser.
“They used to operate at Pyakasa and want to come and start to operate at FHA” an eyewitness who does not want his name mentioned stated.

Another witness who also pleaded anonymity told our reporter that “If the chairman of Pyakasa had not dodged the cutlass aimed at his head, they would have killed him.

The witnesses commended the swift intervention of Lafet and his men who came and brought the situation under control as they took both leaders off the scene and dispersed the other loyalists from causing further mayhem at the bus stop.

When contacted to comment on the matter Superintendent Lafet declined comment.
