DSTV’s Monopoly Under Threat As CONSAT Enters Pay TV Market


In a noble response to the lament of Nigerians that continued monopoly of the cable television network market has been the reason behind incessant hikes in price of the service rendered; a Nigerian-grown and owned business, Continental Satellite Limited, has unveiled for the Nigerian market a new Pay-TV platform, which comes under the brand name CONSAT.

Promoters of the company said CONSAT is being introduced into the market to provide world class content at a fair price for Nigerians to facilitate true digital experience as countries around the world migrate from analog to digital broadcasting in 2015.

It would be an unfair start.  There is a prevalence of exclusivity that is steering this industry in the wrong direction.  These issues need to be discussed by the stakeholders; regulators and other content providers

in the industry so that we can find an amicable solution. We need a fair start,” he stated.
