The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida chapter yesterday pulled out of the nine month old nationwide strike by the Union.
The decision to pull out of the industrial action was reached on Wednesday by the Congress of the branch.
The congress claimed that it’s decision was to enable the institution meet up with backlog of academic activities, as they are yet to finish 2011/2012 academic session.
The branch Chairman of ASUP Malam Mohammed Gbati also confirmed that the branch has pulled out of the nationwide strike.
But a source in the institution said the union was forced to call a congress on Wednesday when some members decided to sign the staff attendance register opened by the institution management.
The Nation gathered that the Rector Engineer Sule had on Monday directed the Registrar to open register for any academic staff willing to work to sign and resume work.
It was further gathered that the management offered to pay the 5 months salary withheld to any academic staff that return to work.
