A Lagos Island Customary Court, on Thursday, ordered estranged lovers- Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike and his wife, Suzanne Emma to go their separate ways, bringing an end officially to the 17-year old unsavory marriage.
The three-man panel presided over by Chief Awos Awosola, while delivering judgment in a marriage dissolution suit filed by the Emma said “from all evidence before the court, the marriage between the couple had broken down, and it’s irreconcilable, consequently, the marriage is hereby dissolved”.
Delivering judgment in the suit marked LCC/15/2015, the court also granted Emeka custody of the four children of the union, but ordered that their mother be granted unhindered access to them.
The panel which also includes: Mrs. Opeyemi Olanrewaju, and Mr Kehinde Jacob Olayinka., ruled that any party dissatisfied with the Judgment can appeal within 30 days.
The court also received the photocopy of a bank draft of N300,000 dated July 20, 2016, which Emma used to refund the bride price, paid to her family at the beginning of the marriage.
The petition filed before the court accused Emeka of incessant beating, molestation, and torture, which she said could no longer be endured.
Responding, Emeka urged the court not to dissolve the marriage, denying the allegation of wife battering, molestation or torture by his wife.
Instead, he told the court that his wife had moved out of their matrimonial home five times without any reason and that the only time the ‘devil’ entered the marriage was when she paid for the children’s school fees.
Speaking to our reporter after the ruling, the petitioner said: “I’m delighted with the Judgment… I’m happy that the court granted my request.”
Emma who said she is not thinking of a second marriage, advised other women who are going through what she experienced, to be bold enough to approach the court so that they can live a free life.
