The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has asked the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption to wade into the investigation of corrupt allegations against the Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Center, Owerri, Imo state, Dr Angela Uwakem and others.
Dr.Uwakem had been involved in a case of corruption, violation of public civil service rules and victimization of whistle blowers following which she was arraigned alongside others before an Imo State High Court.
The Congress in a letter written to the Committee by its President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, a copy of which was obtained by New Telegraph wants the Committee to stop Dr Uwakem from performing her official functions until her case is dispensed with by a competent court of jurisdiction.
It also asked the Committee to immediately put in place security cordon around the whistle blowers that led to the investigation and arraignment of Dr. Uwakem and co; as well as secure all incriminating documents still in the custody of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.
While requesting for an investigation into the relationship between the embattled Chief Medical Director and Justice Florence Duruoha of Imo State High Court, Owerri whose court granted Dr. Uwakem and others bail and adjourned the case against them to January 24, 2017 to consider the motion challenging the jurisdiction of the court, NLC raised the alarm that the accused CMD has mobilized forces around her to delete names of staff from the IPPIS platform so that they do not get paid their salaries.
“No one can be certain what Dr Uwakem, now a wounded lion, could do next in pursuance of vendetta. Accordingly, we find it appropriate to reiterate that the war against corruption cannot be won when whistle blowers are exposed” the Congress warned.
