Amirul Mumineen, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, and head of Jama’atu Nasril Islam in Nigeria, on Tuesday urged both Christians and Muslim faithfuls to close ranks, as they serve the same God.
He spoke at INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke-Afa , Lagos State where he was special guest at the 2017 annual thanksgiving of the founder, Primate Ayodele Elijah Babatunde.
The Sultan, represented by Ahaji Idris Yari, the Sarkin Hausawa of Lagos, in his remarks said those killing innocent Nigerians in the name of religion are criminals.
“I feel elated being invited here. I was directed by the Sultan to represent him at this occasion. I am always happy whenever i see Christians showing love to their fellow Muslims brothers because we serve the same God
“We should continue to live in peace and harmony as Nigerians, because we are each other’s keeper. The Sultan himself has promised to put a call across to the founder of INRI Church whom he regards as a man of peace.”
Alhaji Idris thereafter donated N2 million on behalf of Arewa Community in Lagos to Christians scheduled to go on pilgrimage to Jerusalem later in the year, in addition to a promise to sponsor a Muslim invitee of the church to Mecca for prayers.
Responding, Primate Ayodele charged Christians to continue showing love to all Nigerians, irrespective of faith, because “Christ is love.”
The cleric announced cash donations and parcel of land to less priviledged Christians and Muslims, which he said “is a token of our appreciation to God for sparing our lives yearly. Both Christians and Muslims have only one heaven.
“It is only God who will determine who will make heaven. Therefore, those sponsoring killings in Southern Kaduna and other places in the country are heartless. Clerics should refrain from preaching hate and reprisal attacks.
“I will soon visit Kaduna State before I make an informed comment on the violence that claimed lives in the state. God will console every family involved. Preachers of hate are ungodly, they should be ignored by the peace loving Nigerians. All of us should show love to each other as Nigerians” he said.
