China on Sunday reported a total of 39 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), with all those cases imported from overseas, the National Health Commission said Monday.
Of the total, 10 were reported in Beijing, 10 in Shanghai, six in Fujian Province, six in Guangdong Province, two in Shandong Province, two in Gansu Province, and the Provinces of Zhejiang and Henan and Chongqing Municipality each reported one case. By the end of Sunday, 353 imported cases had been reported, said the commission.
Also on Sunday, nine deaths (all in Hubei ) and 47 new suspected cases were reported on the mainland.
On Sunday, 459 people were discharged from hospital upon recovery, while the number of severe cases decreased by 96.
The overall number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 81,093 by the end of Sunday, including 5,120 patients who were still being treated, 72,703 patients who had been discharged upon recovery, and 3,270 people who died of the disease.
The commission said that 136 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus, and that 10,701 close contacts were still under medical observation.
No new confirmed cases were reported Sunday in Wuhan, marking the fifth day in a row of zero report at the epicenter of the epidemic in a months-long battle with the deadly virus.
The health commission of Hubei Province said the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hubei remained unchanged at 67,800 by Sunday, including 50,005 in the provincial capital city of Wuhan.
By the end of Sunday, 317 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 21 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 169 in the Taiwan region, including two deaths.
A total of 100 patients in Hong Kong, 10 in Macao and 28 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospital upon recovery.
