Boko Haram: AU Calls For Support For Nigeria, Others

The African Union has noted that Nigeria and its neighbours needed support from across the continent for insurgent group, Boko Haram to be defeated.

Calling for increased backing for Nigeria and its affected neighbours, an official of the continent’s body, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said that Boko Haram is a threat not only to Nigeria and the region, but also to the continent as a whole

“The situation calls for renewed collective African efforts, strong condemnation of the cowardly and dastardly attacks carried out by Boko Haram,” she said.

The comments followed a regional summit that opened in Niger on Tuesday to stop the militants, whose insurgency has left 13,000 dead and forced 1.5 million from their homes since 2009.

Already, Chad has sent troops to Cameroun to help the country fight the insurgent who had continued to spread their activities in across the borders of Nigeria, Cameroun, Chad and Niger.
