For Alula Okposo, daughter of Gloria Ibru and Sammy Okposo, this certainly seems her date with destiny as she takes a big leap into the world Nigeria’s showbiz with the birth of a new show tagged ‘Music from the Soul.’
This music based show which has seen her gathering together a blend of old school music legends with the new, held its first edition a few weeks ago at Waterside Lounge inside Westwood Hotels Lagos, with the likes of Yinka Davies, Dede Mabiaku, Wole Oni, Vector Tha Viper, Day 9, Alula and a host of other up-and-coming artistes rendering songs that got guests applauding.
Now set to host the second edition tagged ‘lovers Edition’ the event will hold on Saturday, February 4, at Othello’s Lounge VI Lagos with tables going for N25,000, N75,000 and a N100,000. Alula disclosed that the lovers edition will showcase music legends like the amazing Alex O, Vector Tha Viper, Day 9, Dede Mabiaku, Gloria Ibru, Godbless, Alula,Tebudiga and many more upcoming artistes.
Speaking further Alula revealed that she set out to create a platform for old and new artistes to blend and perform together under a serene atmosphere where guests would unwind and enjoy music to the fullest.
she further disclosed that listening to her mother perform with her band when as a child played a major role in her love for soul and Jazz music which was the kind of music that held sway in the past.
A major highlight of the evening would be a fashion show that would see a blend of music and fashion adding colour to the night.
Fashion designers like One is Ok,Olivia`s Trunk makers of jeans and female accessories, Amazonian `s women fashion, makers of old and new school kind of clothing are some of the designers that will be showcasing their latest outfits to guests on the night of the show.
For Alula whose father is the famous gospel crooner Sammie Okposo, much remains to be seen how she hopes to conquer the challenges ahead of her in the world of showbiz, but sources close to her say she intends to go full throttle in her quest to become a leading events promoter in the country, while also pursuing a career as an artiste and probably become the new diva of soul music in Nigeria.
