The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEBP) has warned residents of the Federal Capital Territory to either keep their environment clean or risk facing the full wrath of law.

Mrs. Aishat Adebayo, Acting Director AEBP, said that the board is poised to rid the city of refuse dumps and would not stop at anything to ensure that residents comply with environmental rules and regulations.

In a press release issued by the board’s Principal Information Officer, Josie Mudasiru, Mrs. Adebayo noted that operators of motor parks and markets should endeavour to maintain a clean environment by procuring waste bins.

She disclosed that the waste bins are available for sale at the board’s head office adding that market and parks sanitation are critical to the board’s sanitation programme as they are high waste generation points.

“They are also places where people visit regularly. The AEPB has continued inspection of these facilities and will ensure that they are properly sanitized”, she said

She however warned that failure by any resident of the city to abide by environmental regulations as contained in the AEPB Act, 1997 attract fines or imprisonment if  such offender is convicted by the mobile sanitation courts.
